YW Basketball Season!

Hello Coaches, YW Leaders and Young Women!

Basketball season will begin the middle of January.  Region Basketball is in March.  Please ask your girls if they want to play.  You need a minimum of 5 players to play.  If you want to play but don't have enough girls, please email me the number of girls you will have there each week (as best as you can determine).  As soon as you can, please contact me.  I need to hear from you at the latest, by December 29th, 2013.

These are the teams we had last year...

TEAM 1:  Liberty 1st
TEAM 2:  South Fork, Huntsville 1, Huntsville 2
TEAM 3:  Middleton, Middle Fork, Eden 1
TEAM 4:  Eden 2, Nordic Valley, Wolf Creek, Liberty 2, North Fork

If you want to talk with the Coaches or leaders of the other wards on your team, please click on the Coaches/Leaders Tab and contact them.  You could have a central meeting point and take turns with rides and coaching.  If you want your own team, or have grouped with a nearby ward to host a double team, please contact me as soon as possible.

We had many forfeits in Volleyball, so it is better to join with a ward if you can't field a team, then to have a few of your girls show up and not be able to play.  In the end, this is really about good, wholesome, physical fun and an opportunity to bring friends of other faiths to join in the LDS community fun.

Region Volleyball Tournament

Our combined Huntsville 1st and Huntsville 2nd ward team went on to the Regional competition held on November 8th & 9th at the Lorin Farr Stake center in Ogden.  They made it through the first round and played a great game in the 2nd round, with a close loss.  We are proud of you girls for your great attitudes and sportsmanship.  A big Thank You to Coaches, Ruth Jenkins and Janae Gunderson for all your hard work and dedication to your teams. Way to Go!

Stake Young Women Volleyball Championships

Congratulations to our two winning teams going on to Region.  In a hard fought final game, Team 2,  made up of Huntsville 1st & Huntsville 2nd wards, held on to their first place position by narrowly defeating Eden 2nd.  Eden 2nd won the first game, with Huntsville coming up with the win in game 2.  Game 3 came down to the wire with Huntsville winning by 2 points, giving them 6 wins for the season.  Both teams played with great sportsmanship with no one getting upset or acting less than gracious.   Team 7, Liberty 2 and Nordic Valley,  ended up in 2nd place, finishing the season with 5 wins, with Eden 2 taking 3rd place in the Stake.  Congratulations to all of our teams and we hope you had fun!
For those going on to Region, if you have a girl on the Jr. High team please get those Coach permission slips signed before Region play on November 8th in North Ogden.

Volleyball Begins!

Please click on the Volleyball schedule Tab Above to view your schedule and the Forms tab above to print out your Volleyball eligibility form.  Please have this filled out with your players and bring to your first game.  Thanks!

Young Women Volleyball will run from September 26th until October 24th.  This year we have 8 teams playing.  Each Thursday night all 8 teams will play 2 other teams.  Four teams will play from 5:30 until 7:00 pm and then the other 4 teams will play from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  Each week your team will have turns at the early and later games.  Each game will consist of 3 shorter matches.  Best 2 of 3 matches will determine the winner of that game.  At the end of the season we will decide to send the top 2 or 3 teams on to region play which will be held on November 8th & 9th in North Ogden.

Last year we had no forfeited games.  We had wonderful sportsmanship.  Thank you girls for being great representatives of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  We know we can count on you this year as well!

Please remember to wear modest shorts and crew neck tee-shirts.  Also please remember that tennis shoes are required so there aren't any injuries.

All our games will be played prior to the Jr. High Team playing except for the last game.  Remember to fill out a Sports release found under forms, if any of your girls make the Jr. High Volleyball team.

As always, High School volleyball players are not eligible to play Stake Volleyball due to the commitment they have made to their high school coach.

Have a great season!
Pauline and Wendy

Attention Young Women Coaches and Leaders

Hello Coaches and YW Presidencies,

We are ready to begin Volleyball!   Would you access your ability to field a volleyball team to play at the stake center.  Last year we had record numbers and no forfeits.  It was a great season.  There are two things we would like to see happen this year.

First, we really want the girls to have enough playing time.  You need a minimum of 6 players per team,  but last years combined teams up to 20 girls per team translated to very little playing time.  Please let us know if you are going to field a team from your ward and the number of girls you think you will have.  If you have a huge number we can work with that.

Second, ask your YW if there are girls in your boundaries that don't attend our church that they could invite.  Most of our YW have a friend that is not a member of our faith.  If you only have 3 girls who you can bring, see if each of them can invite one friend to play with your team for the season and voila! you have enough to play!  If you don't have a need for numbers, we would still like each girl to invite their friends for the season.  We can make more teams to play.

Having come from another state, I noticed no boundaries of faith keeping friends from enjoying activities together.  Here, where there is a strong religious majority, that division though unintentional and unwanted, is strongly felt by those youth who are of a different faith.  Blending the youth community through sports is a win-win for everyone to feel included and loved.

Please let me know if you will be having a single ward team by Sunday September 1st (after talking with your YW at church). We will create the schedule and we will post it here under Volleyball Schedule.  This will be the main forum for communication with you.  I will send a text and email alerting you when there is a new post.   We can't wait to see you all again!

Stake Volleyball is around the corner!

Hi Coaches and YW Presidencies,

Stake Volleyball will be starting soon.  We will be attending the regional meeting on the 24th and we will contact you by text and remind you to check this blog for information.  We hope you will all try to have a team this year as the combined teams were just too big.

Volleyball Free Clinic Reminder

Hi everyone,

In case you needed a reminder...
For all of you that signed up for the Free Volleyball clinic at Weber State, it is this Saturday, the 24th of August, from 9:00-11:00 am.  It will be held in the Swenson Gym and the parking lot is A7 up by the Football Stadium.  The gym is near the tennis courts.  For those of you who signed up, please go as they only accepted 100 people and you don't want to leave an opening someone else could have used.  If you can't go,  please find a replacement.

For those who didn't sign up, there's always next year!
